Finance Plan…

The Finance Plan will need careful consideration – The Dakar Rally can cost upwards of £30k the entry fee will cost about £15,000, then there’s the bike costs, race support package, transportation/air fares, accommodation, kit, spares, incidentals etc!

So let me know if you have any bright ideas for fund-raisers and sponsorship etc. I can’t offer top results but can offer an everyman’s take on the world’s toughest rally whilst still approaching it with a solid and professional  commitment to being well prepared and capable of finishing.

Hey Dude,
I am loking for sponsorship too but I am about to start a vineyard and make some wine. I plan on being able to ride in 7 years or less. Depending on how fast the grapes grow but I am in the right region. If you want a partner I would be interested but I can’t do the bike thing. It will have to be a car/truck. Let me know.

Your right Justin – the finance is always notoriously difficult to raise from sponsorship as it’s difficult to show companies the benefit.
I want to look into setting up a charity but this may take more time than I have (that alone trying to train as well!) in the meantime I better start doing the lottery!
Cheers

Yeah – the finance is a race in itself and the sad fact is that most privateers raise little sponsorship and have to self fund….!
I could go all out to start a charity/get sponsorship/bake and sell cookies but I have limited free time and sponsorship could be a full time thing that would eat up training time. (And I think I’d rather be riding! ;-) so the long term plan may include more of my money than I would like ;-(

Hi Jago

Nicky and I raised £800 in one day when we did the marathon – sponsored walk in the Forest followed by a Raffle at a pub (agreed with the proprietor, of course). Invite your friends to join you in a walk around London canals or something; then meet up in your local for the raffle. We found it relatively easy to get people to give prizes (e.g., the local Audi garage even gave me an umbrella). Contact all your local/not so local garages/bike merchants now – they have budgets for this type of thing.

Thanks Maureen

That is a good idea – I suppose you could take it further and throw an evening do! (Maybe people will be more generous after a few drinks :-P )

I thought I wouldn’t need to start fund raising until later but thinking about it, it’s obviously better to start early; it will undoubtedly be harder than expected to raise funds so more time the better and also when you start taking money off people there’s a responsibility to do it!

I reckon you are onto something with sponsorship from Burberry ;)

Tamsin may be the youngest female to race but you will be the first to wear head-to-toe Burberry…mid-thirties middle management has got to be a core audience for them.

Good luck fella looking forward to getting the updates down here in Oz.

You got it Paul – I may not be the fastest cat but will definately be the coolest! in fact that could be my USP – updating Burberry’s charging Knight with a wheelieing rally bike! -
Watch this space……
